  • Soraya González Mendes is a researcher and an assistant professor in the Department of Business Economics (ADO), Applied Economics II, and Fundamentals of Economic Analysis at the Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC). She holds a Cum Laude PhD degree with international mention in Business Organisation at URJC and at ISEG/Universidade de Lisboa (Lisbon, Portugal). She did diverse international research stays at ISEG/Universidade de Lisboa (Lisbon) and TBS Toulouse Business School (Toulouse, France). She has an Advanced and native-level proficiency in English and Portuguese, respectively, and a basic level in French. She has a Double Degree in Tourism and Business Administration and Management from the URJC and a Degree in Law from the UC3M. She also has a Master's Degree in Legal Practice from UAM and a Master's Degree in Teacher Training from URJC. She is a non-practicing lawyer, too. Her article "The role of Blockchain-related technologies in transforming the tourism and hospitality industry: an overview and research guidelines" published in the renowned IJCHM has received 2nd Prize FCEE 2025 for Research, in 2025. She won a prize for being the 3rd best Assistant Football Referee of the Third Men's Division during the season 2021-2022. In 2022, she participated in the tests for being a professional Assistant Football Referee in the Women's Premier Division. She has participated in several international conferences, such as WorldCIST, CISTI, ACEDE, EBES, or INTED. She has published in prestigious scientific journals, among others, European Journal of Tourism Research, British Food Journal, Technology Analysis & Strategic Management, and International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management. She is part of the High Performance Research Group on Circularity, Sustainability, Innovation and Talent of the URJC and the Emerging Teaching Innovation Group in Business Organisation: Walking Towards the 2030 Agenda. She is part of the Consolidated Teaching Innovation Group in Business Organization: Moving Towards the 2030 Agenda. Her lines of research focus on Technological Innovation with technologies, such as Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence, in Businesses primarily centred on Agri-Food and Tourism, considering the environmental, social, and economic Sustainability. She is also interested in studying about Leadership, Football Business, Sport Tech, and Gamification. She is a student member of IEEE. She has worked in several public and private secondary schools, as well as private institutions like Petit Palace Hotels or El Corte Inglés warehouses, and recognised public institutions, such as the Bank of Spain, the Public Employment Agency or a public Health Centre.
