  • I am a freshwater ecologist interested in exploring global change impacts on aquatic ecosystems. Much of my research has a strong focus on trophic ecology, with a particular interest in ontogenetic niche shifts, niche variation and competitive mechanisms to better understand the stability of animal communities and ecosystem functioning. I am also particularly fascinated by aquatic-terrestrial linkages enabling ecosystem coupling. Currently, the exploration of how food webs respond to ecological and environmental gradients is a major, but not exclusive, focus of my research, aiming to explore how freshwater ecosystems may response to climate change and human-induced pressures. Thus, my research covers the exploration of impacts of global change on biodiversity and functioning of freshwater ecosystems.

I have made substantial contributions to the generation of ideas, knowledge, hypotheses and results, providing significant scientific advances in understanding the structure and functioning of freshwater systems, particularly in the fields of trophic ecology theory and freshwater ecology. This work is reflected in a strong publication record, with 68 JCR-indexed papers since 2010, including 51 (75%) led as first author.

    Research lines:
    • Global change impacst on ecosystem structure and functioning.
    • Trophic ecology.
    • Stable isotopes as indicators of ecological processes.
    • Competitive interactions and food resource partitioning.
    • Food web structure.
    • Biogeographic patterns in feeding.
