  • Dr. L. Alonso is a Professor within the Mechanical Engineering Department at Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC) since 2019. He obtained his Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering at Carlos lll University of Madrid (UC3M) in 2015 and 2017. As the top of his class, he was awarded with the Extraordinary Degree Prize granted by UC3M and the Bilingual Extraordinary Degree Prize granted by Accenture. He started doing research with a competitive grant within the Continuum Mechanics and Structural Analysis Department at UC3M. His PhD research was focused on the analytical and finite element modeling of dynamic mechanical processes such as high-velocity impact on composite materials (2019). Nowadays, Prof. Alonso investigates the physical mechanisms underlying adhesion in solid-state bonding processes such as cold spray through the development of analytical and finite element models to give insights into the prediction and understanding of those mechanisms. He has always been involved in international and interdisciplinary environments, collaborating with leading scientists in the field as a visiting professor at the University of Edinburgh for 3 months (2018) and Cornell University for 9 months (2022 and 2023) funded by José Castillejo fellowship.
