  • PhD in Mathematics (UCM'97). Professor in Statistics and Operational Research since 2016. His research is focused on Mathematical Optimization as a basic discipline for modelling and solving problems in logistics and industrial engineering. The following contributions can be highlighted in his more than 30 years of research experience.
    • BFC: Branch and Fix Coordination: general scheme for resolving Stochastic Optimization problems.
    • Air traffic flow management, conflict detection, and resolution.
    • Risk management, with contributions to the measurement and management of risk in industrial planning problems in multi-stage problems.
He has participated in several research projects (six granted by the National R&D Plan, as Principal Researcher, without interruption since 2004). He has also participated in research contracts with companies as a responsible researcher, managing budgets exceeding 800,000 euros. Additionally, he has been involved in company training activities, including Ciemat (2002), Idom (2003), GMV (2008), and Aesa (2012).

He has over fifty articles published in JCR journals, most of which are in Q1 journals, and several chapters in books edited by Springer, Wiley, and the Mathematical Programming Society. Some of the articles have several hundred citations and have been cited in prestigious publications (Handbooks of Operations Research, Handbooks of Discrete Mathematics, Handbooks of Power Systems) and doctoral theses (Duisburg-Essen, Brunel, Norway, Texas, Basque Country, Chile, etc.). He has made over 200 presentations at international conferences. He has given lectures at the universities of Edinburgh, Chile, Humboldt, Seville, and the Polytechnic University of Barcelona, among others.

He has supervised eight doctoral theses in stochastic optimization, air traffic management, air traffic conflict detection and resolution, and optimization models for energy planning, producing numerous scientific publications.

He has actively participated in organizing high-level scientific events and conferences. Specifically, he was the president of the organising committee for the Applied Mathematical Modelling 2006 International Workshop in Operations. Research 2008, National Statistics Congress and IO 2012, Workshop on Combinatorial Optimization, Routing and Location 2015, and Computational Management Science 2016.
