  • Dr. L. Alonso is a Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC), where he has worked since 2019. He holds a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering from Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M, 2015/2017), graduating top of his class, and completed his PhD in 2019 on the analytical and finite element modeling of dynamic mechanical processes such as high-velocity impact on composite materials, later working on the mechanics of solid-state bonding processes such as cold spray. He has always worked in international research environments, including visiting stays at the University of Edinburgh (2018) and Cornell University (2022-2024), the latter funded by a José Castillejo fellowship. More recently, he has opened a new research line at the interface between physics, engineering and biology, combining experimental work with continuum mechanics approaches to study active biological matter and mechanobiology, working at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as an Affiliate for two years. He continues to actively collaborate with MIT within this research line, which currently defines the focus of his research.
