I got my Engineering degree in Telecommunications from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (1991) and my Dr. Eng. in Telecommunications from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (2002). I got my national accreditation as Associate Professor in 2015 and a special accreditation as i3 researcher by the National Research Agency in 2019.At present I am an Associate Professor in Signal Theory at the URJC and an associate researcher for projects SAPIENS and EMPATIA at UC3M.I have tried to develop a multidisciplinary CV comprising Natural Language and Speech Processing, Statistical Machine Learning and Pattern Recognition, Data Mining and non-standard Math (exotic algebras, e.g. Tropical Algebra) Applications, with the avowed purpose of finding new ways and tools to solve new and old problems. My main scientific contributions are:
- The extension of Formal Concept Analysis for idempotent costs (K-FCA).
- The discovery of the Entropy Triangle and its application to the assessment of performance both in Human and Machine learning tasks.
- The discovery and description of the relationship between linear algebra over complete idempotent semifields and concept lattices, and
- Its use for the interpretation of linear algebra constructions in such semifields, e.g. the Singular Value Decomposition with applications in Information Theory (the positive semifields made evident by Rényi's definition of entropy).
I have extensive teaching experience both at the undergraduate and graduate level (>15yrs). I took part in the creating of a Doctoral Degree at UC3M that obtained a quality certificate. I have ample education for teaching (1 MOOC, conferences, courses), even in English (Cambridge's C2 CoP), have carried a number of teaching innovation experiences, and even research for teaching innovation.I have taken part in more than 20 research projects (among them 3 EU projects, different frameworks), 3 National Topic Networks (Redes Temáticas), and 17 projects collaborating with companies.I have visited with a number of research centres abroad: University of Strathclyde (Glasgow, UK; 2003), International Computer Science Institute (Berkeley, USA; 2004 and 2006), Universitá degli Studi di Trento (Trento, Italy; 2013), Universität Wien (Vienna, Austria; 2021 and 2023) and Complexity Science Hub (CSH, Vienna, Austria, 2023). All experiences which have led me to be a strong proponent of Open Science.
