The researching profile of Juan Díaz Alvarado (JDA) is definitely based on the endogenous geology knowledge. As Ph.D. student, he gained experience and contributed to multidisciplinary researching groups focused on the study of the mass transfer from deeper regions of the crust and mantle to shallow crustal regions,the batholith construction and the geochemical variations during the emplacement processes. During several foreign stays, JDA has specialized in geochronology and experimental petrology. Besides, the mapping and structural knowledge allow him to decipher the deformational response of the intrusive magmas and the high-grade crustal host-rocks during the emplacement processes. Since 2013, the experience of JDA in the University of Atacama (Chile) as professor and principal researcher of national projects led JDA to extend this conceptual and technical scope towards other subjects of intense international scientific debate as the Cordilleran orogenic systems. Significant contributions to the accretionary complexes and related oceanic rocks, Cordilleran magmatism and collapse calderas have been published recently. The three-year project led by JDA has gathered young and experienced researchers in the study of magmatism and tectonics in northern Chile, achieving a significant role in the South American earth sciences. Moreover, a new research line in applied geology, i.e. recent volcanism and volcanic hazards were implemented, including its social impact and the divulgation. The significant scientific experience achieved by the research group leaded by JDA at the University of Atacama has favored the collaboration with recognized researching groups in South America and Europe, which will allow him to aim for international funds,contributing from recent positions at the University of Huelva, the Instituto Geológicoy Minero and the Rey Juan Carlos University. Between 2015 and 2018, JDA managed researching programs and policies as Director of Research at the University of Atacama, adding management capacity to his competence.
