Juan Sebastián Cely es profesor Ayudante Doctor en la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos. Actualmente imparte docencia en asignaturas como Fundamentos de Programación, Mecatrónica y Modelado y Simulación de Robots. En otras ocasiones ha impartido docencia en asignaturas de Ingeniería de Control y Fundamentos de Informática.
Cuenta con una decena de artículos publicados en revistas indexadas JCR, además de contar con 2 Patentes. Sus intereses en investigación están relacionados con el Control Geométrico para la navegación de robots, Control No lIneal para Robots Aéreos y Subacuaticos y Robótica Subactuada.
Cuenta con un Ph.D. en Automática y Robótica con distinción Sobresaliente - Cum Laude por la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, además de un M.Sc. en Automática y Robótica por la misma universidad y es Ingeniero en Mecatrónica por la Universidad Militar Nueva Granada en Bogotá, Colombia.

He currently teaches subjects such as Fundamentals of Programming, Mechatronics, and Robot Modelling and Simulation. On other occasions he has taught subjects in Control Engineering and Computer Science Fundamentals.He has a tens articles published in JCR indexed magazines, in addition to having 2 Patents. His research interests are related to Geometric Control for Robot Navigation, Nonlinear Control for Aerial and Underwater Robots, and Underactuated Robotics.He has a Ph.D. in Automation and Robotics with Distinction Sobresaliente - Cum Laude by the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid - UPM, in addition to a M.Sc. in Automation and Robotics by the same university and is a Mechatronics Engineer by the Nueva Granada Military University in Bogotá, Colombia.
