  • I hold a five-year Licenciatura (equivalent to a Master's Degree) in Chemical Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid (1993), specialising in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

After three years managing the Erasmus Office of the Faculty of Sciences at the Complutense University, I joined Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC) in 1998 to coordinate international programmes within the Vice-Rectorate for International Relations
In 2001, while undertaking doctoral research at URJC under the supervision of Professor Ángel Gil, I obtained the Expert Diploma in Vaccinology from the Autonomous University of Madrid and was appointed Assistant Lecturer in Human Histology at URJC¿s Faculty of Health Sciences.

In 2002, I was awarded a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Complutense University of Madrid, graduating cum laude with a thesis on the biochemical mechanisms of endotoxic shock and hepatic oxidative stress. Since 2003, I have served as Associate Professor of Cell Biology at URJC.

My research activity has resulted in more than 50 publications in JCR-indexed journals, most in Q1 journals, as well as 7 international book chapters. I have been Principal Investigator on two research projects and a member of six competitively funded research teams. I am also co-holder of 4 biotechnology patents in the field of ecotoxicology.

In 2016, I was appointed Head of the Environmental Toxicology Area at Spain¿s National Centre for Environmental Health (CNSA).

My research interests include environmental toxicology, stress physiology, spectroscopy-based biomarker analysis, and health-related applications of emerging technologies.
Since 2005, I have participated in multidisciplinary national and regional research projects coordinated by Professors Eva Barreno, Pedro Carrasco and Isaac Garrido, focusing on the diversity of lichen-associated microalgae and the identification of abiotic stress tolerance biomarkers through near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and aquaphotomics. I have also contributed to research on the use of NIRS for the diagnosis and prognosis of hepatitis C, in collaboration with clinicians and researchers from Alcorcón University Foundation Hospital.

I served on the Research Ethics Committee (2018¿2022) until my appointment as Academic Director for Continuing Education and Quality Lead for University-Specific Programmes (2022¿2025). I have represented the academic staff on the Quality Assurance Committees (QACs) of the BSc in Biology (as First-Year Coordinator), the PhD Programme in Sciences, and as Secretary of the QAC for University-Specific Programmes. I have also been an invited member of the University-Specific Programmes Committee.I currently represent the academic staff on the Quality Assurance Committee of the Official Master's Degree in Biomedical Research and am a member of its Academic Coordination Committee.

Alongside my research and teaching activities, I am committed to public engagement and health education. Since 2020, I have co-organised the Pozos de Pasión Seminars, an outreach initiative on reproductive and sexual health supported by URJC. In 2025, the programme received the Recognition for Work towards the Eradication of Violence against Women from Alcorcón City Council.
I also collaborate with the CIMTM in the coordination of the postgraduate programme Expert in the Prevention of the Effects of Pornography on Affective-Sexual Health (URJC Clinic), where I teach on sexual biology, gender and health, promoting evidence-based approaches to sexual health education and wellbeing.
