  • Koldo Trapaga is currently (January 2026)  associate professor of early modern history at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos where he began his career as professor in September 2018. He got his PhD from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2015).

    Current research lines.
     
    - Forestry policies for shipbuilding and the sugar industry in the Iberian Peninsula and Macaronesia, especially for Portuguese speaking area
    - Environmental impact of these industries, and spatial studies on resource provenance and forestry policies
    - Narratives on ecological degradation and natural resources exhaustion 

    Publications and research.
    He has published one monograph (from my PhD dissertation), 19 research articles, 35 book chapters, and 8 book reviews. He has coordinated 5 monographs and 4 journal special issues. He has obtained one 6-year research productivity (2019, sexenio de investigación), and a 3-year research period by Fundación Madrid I+D. 

    Teaching and supervision
    - Since the 2017-2018 academic year, I have taught more than 1,700 hours of coursework, most of which have been in English, across the Undergraduate Degrees in Primary Education, International Relations, Tourism, Protocol, and Event Organization.
    - I have supervised 15 Master's theses and 47 Undergraduate dissertations.
    - I have taught at the Master's level as a guest lecturer at the University of the Basque Country and the Leibniz University Hannover.
    -  I have taught at the NOVA University Lisbon within the framework of the Erasmus+ program (2018).

    Conference organizations and attendance at conferences. 
    I have attended more than 80 conferences. Moreover, I have organized 7 international conferences. 

    Grants
    I have served as the Principal Investigator (PI) for four research projects (three of which were funded competitively) from both public and private organizations, and I have been a member of 12 others. In 2024, I was selected for an interview for the ERC-Consolidator Grant 2024 with the 'RESILIENT PATHS' project. Furthermore, I am a member of the Management Committee of the EU-PoTaRCh Cost Action (since 2025).
