Presentación

  • I started working on biomaterials in 2008 with my final degree project (performed at the Friedrich Alexander University and National University of Colombia) on the manufacturing of Polylactic acid/calcium phosphate scaffolds by Fused Deposition Modelling for bone tissue engineering. My PhD research work (Spanish National Research Council - CSIC), pioneered the development of new Polymer/Mg composites suitable for resorbable osteosynthesis implants and led to ground-breaking contributions in the field of biodegradable materials. As a result, I was acknowledged by the Massachusetts Institute of technology- MIT as an Innovators Under 35-TR35 (https://www.innovatorsunder35.com/the-list/sandra-cifuentes/). 
    I did a post-doctoral stay at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid where I focused my research on two main lines: (1) Powder Injection Molding technology - development and rheological study of feedstocks, (2) Manufacturing by powder metallurgy of biodegradable alloys for applications in bone regeneration. Currently, I am Associate Professor at the King Juan Carlos University focusing my research on degradable biomaterials.
