  • Dr. Alberto Jiménez Suárez is an Industrial Engineer from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, where he was awarded the "Europeus Doctor" distinction and the Extraordinary Doctorate Award. He also completed postgraduate studies, including a Master's degree in Structural Materials for New Technologies and a certification in the Finite Element Method.

Since 2012, he has been teaching at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, becoming an Associate Professor in 2019 and a Full Professor in 2025. From 2014 to 2019, he coordinated exchange programs and internships for the Industrial Organization Engineering program and later became Degree Coordinator. Since 2022, he has served as Deputy Director of Master's Theses, Internships, and Corporate Relations, and in 2025, he assumed the role of Director of the Official Master's School.

He has taught in more than six master's programs and supervised over 100 undergraduate and 12 master's theses, consistently earning the highest rating (EXCELLENT) in the DOCENTIA teaching evaluations. He is the coordinator of an innovation teaching group and principal investigator of five Innovation in Education Projects.

His research focuses on multifunctional composite materials, incorporating carbon nanostructures into epoxy resins. His work spans process optimization to applications in structural health monitoring, heat dissipation, and self-healing. His current research explores thermal activation in nanoreinforced resins for self-detection through thermography, shape memory, and self-healing mechanisms. Recently, he has concentrated on composite sustainability, developing bio-based thermosets, vitrimers, and recycling technologies.

He has authored 100 JCR-indexed scientific articles¿primarily in Q1 journals¿with 2,330 citations (WoS) and an h-index of 27. He has contributed to over 90 conferences, including three invited and four keynote talks. Since 2017, he has co-organized the "Multifunctional Materials" session at the ACEX International Conference. He also directs the Conference on Smart and Sustainable Polymers and Composites, held annually since 2024 at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos.

Additionally, he has completed five international research internships, including a 2019 Fulbright-funded visit to Stanford University, two visits to Los Alamos National Laboratory, Florida International University, Hamburg-Harburg Technische Universität, and ParisTech (ENSAM).

He has supervised two Ph.D. theses on 3D-printed multifunctional nanocomposites and vitrimer-based composites and currently supervises three Ph.D. projects focused on self-healing coatings, new hybrid sustainable composites, and dual-curing smart nanocomposites.

He has participated in 12 competitive research projects, leading three, and has contributed significantly to technology transfer, participating in over 35 industry-funded projects and contracts. He serves as principal investigator on more than 12 projects. Additionally, he is co-inventor of two patents on nanoreinforced de-icing coatings and self-healing polymer coatings with recycled carbon fiber. He directs COMPOLABU, a polymer and composite testing and manufacturing facility serving the university and external clients.

In the field of science communication, he has coordinated multiple science dissemination activities since 2012.
